Below we give some farther information extracted from the annual report of the Harbour Master of Hongkong for 1910.

Of ships of European construction, 4,278 ocean steamers, 8 sailing ships, 3,910 river steamers, and 1,589 steamships not exceed- ing 69 tons entered during the year, giving a daily averago entry of 267 ships, na com- pared with 25-6 in 1969 and 28-8 in 1908.

The average tonnage of individual oceau Tassels entering the port has once móra increased--from 2,390-4 tons to 2,457-3 tody. Thiar of British skiperbar incressed' (2,594-5 tons as against 2,194 tons) while that of Foreign ships has incrassed from 4,2053 tons, to 2,324-1 tons

During the past 20 years, the average. tonnage of ocean vessels has increased from 1,179 tons te 2,417-3 tons.

The average tonnage of river steameri entered during the year has again decreased from 620-6 tons to 802.1 tone. That of British river steamers has decreased from 640-4 tons to 617 toms, and that of foreign- -river etoamers from 538-1 tons to 329 tons.

British river steamers have recovered from the large decrease shown in 1909, and. lanve added considerably in numbers to the Agures for 1008, though the tenorge doos nes orme up to that for the earlier year. The increase shorn over the figures for 1000-703 ships of 298, 319 tons, or 12'1 per cent, in numbers, and 8 percent. in tonnage is due to the fact that the large Canton river stoamars have made more trips; that some of the small steamere have been tians faired from the West River to the Canton fun, and so run more frequently, and that

many of the smaller steamers have made
