The President-Before making you to adopt the report in this case I should like to go into it little and point out what actually happened s'nce a certain portion of the Colonial Cemetery was enterrat d and the letter was sent to the diffrent missionary sexistia and churches in Hong kong. I found the question rather difficult, and after bringing the matter before the Board it was settled that should the President not be satisfied that a person was eligible for burial in the Colonial Centery, he should refer, the matter to the select committee. Ia doubtful cases I have done this, but certain dificulties have arisen in getting the committes to decide what should be done in these cases, Very often the undertaker, or the relativo cf a person who wishes to be buried in the Colonial Cemetery, comes to the office at ten o'clock, or later in the morning, and asks for permission to inter in the Colonial Cemetery. Arrangements bad a'rondy beon made for the interment to take place that day, and unlòst proof was forthcoming that the man was a Christian the interment might have to be postponed. I think in view of the fact that three or four cases had occurred quite recently, that the time has come when the Board should decide something. Baptisan on a death-bed should. not entitle a person to be interred in the May 23. Colonial Cemetery. As stated in the letter Devawangse LH.K. for Amoy and referred to such persons must conf sahan, L. H.. for Haiphong and Christianity. I certainly thought the test. should be whether a person had been a professing Christian for a portion, and not a small portion, of his life. Itseomato me that applications to inter persons in the Colonial Cemetery who in their lives did not profess Christianity in any shape or form, should be refused. I regret to say that certain missionary societies think fitt take into their societies people who appar- ently are only professing Christianity on their death-beds. -
Mr Lau Chu Pak-Is there any definition of a Christian in the low? I don't think the
Board should decide in a case like this.
The President-The Ordinance states that this portion of the Cemetery is set spart for Christian burial, and I say that 1362 person
