A.B. The last complete carmis of the Colony was taken in 1901, when the total civil population was officially returned at 283,905. In 1900 a partial census was taken, being conáned to the original Colony of Hongkong and that part of the New Territory which lies south of the Kowloon range of hills. This partial census showed a total civil population of 314,805, but it should he pointed out that the portion of the New Territory not included, in this census possessed a population of 85,011 in 190L

N.B.-in November, 1906, a partial census was taken, this being contined to the original Colony of Hongkong and that part of the New Territory which lies south of the Kowloon range of hill. This partial census gave the total Chinese popu- lation (land and flosting) na 307,388, but it should be borne in mind that the portion of the New Territory not included in the partial consus possessed a population of 25,011 in 1901, the year when the inat fuil census was taken."
