Mr Montagu Harris prosecuted and. Mr Griffin was defended by Mr E. W. Godfrey.

Two witness, one a German and the other a Chinese, were called by the pro- sccution but they refused to give evidence.

Mr Godirey--I may say at this stage that the books, vouchers, and accounts of the Company have been at the free disposal of the prosecution and anybody connected with them for the past month or more. No attempt has been made to look into these secounts in order to gather that evidence which ought to have been brought to this Court in support of any such chazgo. --Me- -CHINA-TRADERS INSURANCE CO.
