THE NEW CHINESE MINISTER, His Excellency Lin Tak-lin, the Chinese Minister, unde his first public appearance last weak when he presided over a meeting of the Chian Society at which Mrs Archibald Littledelivered an address on "Progress in Claina." His Excellency, who tunde an admir able chairmann, was very cordially received, Ha said that Mrs Little's reputation was world-wide and ho expressed gratitude to her and other European ladies for their humano work which had done so much to elieve the waroon of China-from the pain and suffering caused by the practice of footbinding.
