A ROBBERY CASE,

At the Criminal Sossions this morning, before Mr Justice Hazeland, 1 Chinaman was placed in the dock on a charge of robbery at Saiwanho on the 9th December, - whereby he was alleged to have taken from a bost womso, in company with another rob bér unknown, several articles of jewellery. Mr C. G. Alabastor prosecuted on behalf of the Crown Prisoner was undefended. The following constituted the jury Me-ers F. M. Gracs (loreman), J. Ornisten. F. H. Hyndman, C.. W. Holsen, G. M. Schmidt, H. Redo and J. C. Forgun. Mr Alabaster, in opening the case, said the prisoner and another man, on the date named engaged a host from a woman at Shaukiwam and rowed across the bay. When they arrived at the other side the prisoner qught hold of the woman, pressed her down and the other man robbed her. Taay then stuffed a bandkerchief into har mouth and ran away over the pier. The woman then pulled the handkerchief out of her mouth and simuted. “Savo life," Two, mmmyrbo,happened to be standing near by saw the prisoner and the other running in oppposite directions and the prisoner was caught by one of the men. It was the common practice of prisopers when they found they had mado incriminating statements to state that they had either been struck by a constable or an inspector. He (his Lordship) had no hésitation in saying that that statement of prisoner's was false.
