PROPOSED ALTERATION OF THE REGULATIONS FOR PREVENTING COLLIS. IONS AT SEA.

The Board of Tmde have forwarded a lengthy communication to the Imperial Merchant Service Guild asking the opinion of that body upon points mised in connte. tion with the proposed alteration of the Regulations for Preventing Collisions at sea. These altemtions include :-y-

TOWING SIGNALA.

A signal for vesels towing gan targets, lughor wits, or similar objects, sucli sigral to be distinct from that carried by scam vessels towing other vessels. The signal suggested consists of tires lights visible all round the horizon, and placed not less than three feet apart at the stern of the towing vessel, the lower light being white and the two upper lights being red.

UNIVERSAL DISTRESS BIGNAL

It is proposed to include in Article 31 a day-signal of distress such as a conc, having oither above it or below its ball, or any- thing resembling a ball. This signal to be made known universally.
