But to return to the chainmakers. There are in the Cradley Heath district fire hundred women, mostly mothers and some of them grandmothers, working for harder than mon for fourteen hours a day -to earn about five shillings a week at forging heavy chains in cottage forgos. Those who have been down to that black region have beon staggered at the spectacle' of sordid life there presented. Enter's cottage, forge and as likely as not the mother will be hard at work forging her chains with a blind husband and several children doing what they can to help. Speak to her und she will not pause to reply the loss of time aho can't afford--
