M: Alfred Mosoly, the woll-known dia mond morchant of Hatton Garden, who has done so much during the past few years to promote British educational improve- ments along the lines of American expori ened, has recently undertaken a difficult task, says the Daily Mail. The island of St. Heloan. 4,500 miles away, has for some time been in a very parlous state. Without industries, inhabited by a people not øret. noted for their enterprise, and out of touch with the world in general-it for generations depended upon the military garrison there. When the troops werg withdrawn the situation was black indeed. There was no capital in the island, there was practically nothing for the people to do, and it seamed as though the inhabitants would become mere dependents upon Imperial relief. Then the Government appointed Colonel Gallway, who has dons good service in West Africa na Gerernor of the island, and Mr Mosely came. forward to help him. New industries have been established there, Shre, lace, and mackerel-caring..
