SANITARY DEPARTMENT
REPORT.
The report of the head of the Sanitary Department for 1900 states that the year was singularly free from epidemic disense "accept that the number of uses of enteric fever was above the average. The incidence of mulatta in the Colony showed a reduction as compared with recent years. During the year varias works had been carried out in rural stets and, especially in the village of Slay Ki Was with a view to reducing the number of breeding pineus for the mosquito ; while the hyalary dealing with the prevention of mosquito breeding had been anvended by the Board, so na ty make
it possible to deal more effectively with their breeding places.
The Public Health law was amended during the year so as to give fuller powers for dealing with ecaeteries, especially in reference to she disinterment of unclaimed. bodies after a lapse of years. Certain duties in reard to the registration of births and deaths, the control of vaccinations, and the latting of market stalls were transferred from the Registrar Geners to the Head of the Sanitary Department. The total number of permits issued to remove bodies out of the Colony in 1909
was 538. The total number of bodies ex-
bumed under exhumation permite issued by this Department was 120. Of these 108 were removed from the Colony and 21 re buried within the Colony.
The total revenue collected during the year including that derived from under- takers licences, minket licences, and market stalls collectal by the Registrar General during the first six months of the year amqusted in all to 8203,070.76. The estimated revenue for the
year was
2298,780.00. The total expenditure during the year was $52.520.64 compared with 2976.736.14 is 1908. The estimated ex penditure in 10 was $409,882.00.
