From Mr J. Lambert, Lloyd's Surveyor,

we have received the quarterly returns of

| shipbuilding" up to the 31st December, 1909. At that data there were 331 vessels, Lof.913,874 tons gross under constructiun

in the United Kingdom. This is 135,000 tons more than was in hand at the end of ast quarter and about 143,000 tons more than was pallding twelve months ago.

Of the vessels under construction in the United Kingdom at the and of December" 250 of 653,767 tons are under the super- vision of the Survayam of Lloyd's Register with a view to classification by the Society. In addition, 86 vessels of 191,004 tons aro building abroad with a view to classifica- tion.
