Mr Grist-All the cffences are the same out on different dates, they were all in December. The point which he raised was that defendant was exempt from the ordinance by a section which said that it did not limit the rights of Chinese practitioners and there could be only une meaning to Chinese practitioner and that was persons of Chinese nationality. Der mist Landsnt was the wife of a Chinaman and she married him at the Registrar General's to moderate, office in Hongkong about ten years ago. Bo therefore submitted that she wasexemptand entirely outside the ordinance and that particular section. That was a penal statuto And was to be considered most strictly. Mr Grist quoted the dictum of the Chief his book on Justice Sir Francis Piggott extra-territoriality that defendant came within the scope of the persons who were not of British nationality. In fact she was an American and he submitted there could be no question that she was not of Chinese Dationality.
