ALLEGED FORGERY OF A WILL.

1

At the Magistracy on Monday afternoon, before Mr Hallifax, the hearing was con- sinued of the charge preferred against Wong Yak Shi of forging a will Mr Bow- ley, Crown Soleiter, prosecuted and Mr F. X. D'Almada was for the defence.

Mr Bowley stated that tho cnpo arose cut

of the estate of Wong Pik Hol, a gentleman who lived at Kowkong, on the West River, and who in the course of his life appeared to have accumulated a considorable amount al' property. When he died in 1871 ho loft four sons and apparently made no will. No administration of the estate appears to have been granted to anybody until 1908, when it was granted to Mr Percy Smith, thirty years after the death of Wong Pik Hoi. An action was com menced in the Supreme Court by the third san Wang Tun Shi, vow deceased, against the eldest son Wong Yik Shi who had taken possession of his father's estats and had administered it without lawful authority for thirty years. Under his care it seemed to have prospered and become very valuable The case brought by the third son against the eldest son was compromised in Sep- sember this year, by all tho members of the family agreeing as to how the estate should be divided. A few days before the compromise was approved by the court the third son died at Kowkong and the de fendant, acting as attorney for his brother, accepted the compromise, the money not being paid until later. The estate of Wang Team Shi was sworn at some 842,000 which was reduced by doductions for debta to $2000 only. Wong. Taun Shi-left a widow and three children and when they received only $2000 from the estate, what they expected a lakh of dollars, they caused inquiries to be sado with the result that those proceedings were instituted. Evidenco was called and the case adjourned.
