BANK SHROFF CHARGED WITH STEALING.
Ng Ki Sui, alias Ya Toe Shin, a shroff in the employ of the Hongkong and Shang- bai Banking Corporation, was charged, before Mr E. R. Halifax, at the Magistracy. this afternoon, with stealing $250. -
Detective Surgeat Appleton conducted the prosecution; Mr Gedys watched the case on behalf of the bank; and Mr Lou D'Almada defonded.
Detectiva Sergeant Appleton said that; the owner of the pre-book had 'sent, n friend to deposit $250 at the bank. He did so and then put the book in his pocket without looking at it. After guing to several other places he returned and handed the pass-book to the owner who, after looking at it said that he had not put the money in the bank. He replied that he had and immediately returned to the bank and accused defendant of stealing the money.
Evidence was ealed and the cree was adjourned

On Wednesday afternocu the annual competition and inspection of the Govern- ment Fire Brigade took place at the Central] Station comp und in the presence of His Excellency Sir Frederick Lugard, who was attended by Captain P. M. Taylor, AD C., Hon Mr F. J. Badeley, Captain Superin- endent of Police, Captain F. W. Lyons, Mr P. P. J. Wodehouse and Superin- tendent Lane. There were also a' number -of spectators present-
All the available unità, hose and escaper, were brought into action and the men went through the several competitions with dospatel box, horn and reel, hydrant and escape ladder, with efficiency.
