(From Oir Own Corresponden!)
EDINBURon, July 9. THE AUSTRALIANS IN SCOTLAND. Cricket in Scotland received much needed impetus from the result of the Scottish-Australian game,ur own little **test" match. To make a draw with the Colonials, a draw which made them put forth all their energies to escape defeat, ls, a feather in the cap of the North Country. The regret is that it wasn two days' match, and thega could not be night to the finish.. The Scottish side was fairly representative, even though the bowlers came from York-j shiro,we neemingly, cannot bread profes- sion cricketers. In the first innings, „Scotland opened on L wet wicket with 93,
and the Australians replied with 121,- | figures which justifed the prediction that if the hante team could only forget who.
they were playing against they would make a fair show. The closeness of the game undoubtedly gave heart to the Scots, and they wont in again and put on 230. R. G. Tait of Forfarshire was the top scorer of the tw days with 20 und 52. The Australians in their second attempt had to stretch then- selves to inve the game. They mu up 147 for seven wickets, and therefore required 58 runs to win with three stampa to fall. This
·wasandomi victory for Scotland, an creditable as it was unexpected Over the two in- nings, each, Scottish wicket was worth 16 runs, sfid coch Australiap just over 15: runs. The comparison does not take into Bccount that Scotland hatted one man short the second innings, and that we were also handicapped by the loss of the best bowlers, two men being hurt. On
the first day, Ringrose and Broadben; die missed the Colonials without either ausis- tance or rest, and thus for 121 runs. The following was the Scottish team, J. Anderson, Perthshire; R. G.
Thit, Forfarshire; M. R. Dickaou.
Hou. Arbroath United; B. I. Peel, Grange A. Lindsay, Forfarshire; Broadbert. Uddingston; G. K. Chalmers, Forfarshire; Bliley, Dun- formaline; and Ringrose, Forfamhire. -
GOLF."
Mr E. Legge, a native of Aberdeen, and a graduate of the University, has won the Canadian Amateur Golf Championship.
An anonymous donor gave £300 to North. Berwick Town Council, to be divided into prizes at a profesional golf tournament. George Busena, the Aterdonian, now pró- foesional at Hanger Hall, came in an easy winner over two days' play; A. Herd, Hudiorafeld, second; and Harry Vardonj third. Duncan is looked upon as the moes capable of breaking down the player which has separated the "grent
"of golf from their fellows. "quartett"
still moro remarkable though less zomunerative feat was performed at this tournament
