The other recommendations of the Board require an investigation of cost which is now being made,,, and a further reply will be sent in due course.

A. M. THOMSON,

Colonial Secretary. The letter was referred to the subcom- mitiée appointed to consider the matter.

SCAVENGING CONTRACTOR FINED.

The complaint against the scavenging and conservancy contractor for Shaukiwan was considered, the contractor appearing in person...

The President stated that there were three charges against the contractor, who failed to remova quantity of nightac from Shaukiwau on June 22nd.

The contractor admitted this, but said there was a typhoon that day.

Sanitary Inspector Collett said the signals were up, and there were heavy rain stocars, but there was no typhoon. The contractor had been very unsatisfactory for some time.

The President There are other charges. tut we are not proceeding with them, ad it. was considered these three would be suficient to go on with. I might point out that another charge may be added of sub- letting the contact, which the sub-contrac tor admitted.

The contractor was then questioned by the President: ".

How often do you go to Shaukimas Sometimes.

How often -Once & weak.

Who does your work i-My Foreman. Have you any other contracts 1-Yea, the Aberdeen contract.

How many boats have you got 1-One. The President pointed out that according to the man's contract he was required to baro a boat at each place.. Without two bosta it was obvions that he could not

fulfil the terms of the contrist.

Fon. Mr Hewett-Has there bean a complaint him before?

Bent Complaints began in The February, 1909.

-The Board decided to fine the contractor $10 each on the three charges, and warned him. He was also informed that he must

falfil his contract by getting another boat.
