A fine of $320, Vas imposed on a native, at the Magistracy to-day, for being in possession of opium; while another native was also fined $130 for a like offence.

A case of indecent assault came, before Mr J. H. Kemp, at the Magistracy to-day," when a Chinaman was charged with as- aulting a European girl aged 3 years. The case was remsuded, bail being allowed in the sum of 81,000.
A native was sentenced to siz Veeks' bari labour by Mr J. H. Kemp, at the Magistracy to-day, for stealing flooring] boards belonging to Mr Pepper. A boy was also sentenced to be detained for 48 hours and given 12 strokes of the birch for steal-
ing it dish. Two Chinese were sentenced
to six weeks hard labour each, and three

Dr Pearce, assistant Medical Officer of! Bealth, testified to conducting a pret mortem when he found a wound on the bad and thero were various internal injuries. He believed that deceased' died as the result of a shock but he did not consider it was sufficent in itself to account -for-death-but-from-the condition-of-the beart, lungs ad confested state of the Blood he considered that death was due to asphyxia.
