His Lordship :-Perhaps that is the only way which it could be drawn.

Sir Henry Barkelly-Yes."Continuing, Sir Henry Berkeley said that they looked for the only prepor endorsement, which could purport to be of Man Lee Chan sal Co.. in English.

Hia Lordship-If they take any other -endorsement, they take it at their own .riuk. --

Sir Henry Berkeley submitted further that if a bill drawn in English with the name in English is not endorsed in English it is not properly andcraed in Chinose. If it could properly be endersed in Chinese the onus lay with the

beaker to show that the endorsement in Chinese duly represented, in the Chinese characters, the name of the payes. So far the evidence had gone the plaintiffs de clared that the endorsement Man Lee Chan Sing Ese and Co, does not represent the Chinese equivalent of the name in English of Man. Les Chat and Co. There was as yet no evidence to the contrary and the Court must therefore accept that and it was impossible to non-suit on those grounds.

His Lordship:Yes, I think that. Dealing with the question of good faith Sir Henry Berkeley said that Mr Pollock

had argued that the element of good faith did not enter into the construction of the act and that it was confped to section 80 of the Bills of Fxchange act. That was a supported

HONDKONG TOURNAMENTA Again, thoro was a large attendance of interested spectators at the Hongkong Cricket Club's ground yesterday afternoon to witness some of the games playid off in connection with tha lawn tonnis tournament which is drawing to a close. Greatest interest was erinoed in the concluding semi-final and the subsequent commence® ment of the final in the Professional Paris: competition.

"PROFESSIONAL PATRA. SEMI-FINAL The semi-final saw Capt Beasly and

Ligub Byrne opposed to Capt Murray and Lieut Thompson. The issue was pover in doubt and in the and Bealey and Byrne stained the match by two sets to love and 12 games to 5. The victory was secured by sourd judgment on the part of both Thompson was the the winning men, better man on the other side, several of his hard bits completely baffling his op- ponents. There was far too much "job bing" to invest the contest with more than passing intarest to the spectators.

PROFESSIONAL, PAXES' WINAL.

The final, which followed immediately, produced some fine play, and it was unfortunate, that the filing light made s finish impossible.
