V.M. C. A. PARLIAMENT.

A useful and instructive debate was held

at the Y. M. C. A. Parliament on Tuesday evening on a motion introduced by Captain F. A. Brown, that the saloons as at presenz constituted were a menace to the com- munity. Captain Brown excluded the moderate drinkers from his argument you ha coukl not help overlooking the fact that if there were no moderate drinkers there would be no drunkards.

Hr R A. Lowery thought that the why the saloons and boils

теавод

proved so attractive was the fact that in an evening there was absolutely nothing for the younger members of the community to do after dinner and favoured the State control of the liquer traffic and in this he. was supported by Mr P. Curria,.

Mr W. Emberley was in favour of the motion and agreed with Mr. Lowery | that nothing was done to keep people away from the saloons while he was of the opinion that oozing contests and things of

that sort wets stap in the right disting as it was noticable a contest they would hardly, it sreT, ROD & dranken man about.
