Nothing more seriops has been heard of the mutiny at Plug Chau, 180 B3 from Nanning, where the soldiers rose and killed their commander and his secretary.

Large numbers of workmou are still busy repairing the Band. Over 39,000 has been set apart for this purpose, and though out. wardly the work looks well, yet the old mistakes sill remain, Lo. an insecure foundation below, and abova boggy land which will allow the pond water to per- colate through and make the bund an easy pray the next time the river is in flood.

Captain Eldridge and bis assistants have bean basy surveying the river and have now almost completed their arduous work, which has not been without risks and dangers, as for instance taking soundings on slippery rocks above a rushing current. Captain Eldridge is expected hero shortly when he will make his report to the Tao-tai. The officials are promulgating a schema for altering the drainage of Nooning.
