Colonel Hino has just returned from ⠀ trip to i. He travelled inland from India. and his journay occupied altogether 470 days. The most interesting piece of news that he bringe back with him is that there are quite number of stres in Fi where foreign goods are sold. Those stores are run by Chinese subjects, who wore origin- ally in the service of foreign firms at Shanghai and who were furnished with capital by their foreign employers for the purpose of opening a market in Ili, The goods sold are nearly entirely German, and the fact constitutos a striking illustration of
the activity of German enterprise. From
s political point of view the influence of Russia is very great in Ili. She has several Consuis there, and her tradere supply the mejor portion of the goods required by the three million inhabitants, apart from the necessaries of life which are, procured locally. Japan's name has come to receive much honour since the War. It appears that the Mohammedan inhabitants prayed, for her success. A certain amount of BATA. Japanese goods are imported into Ik by OON-the Chineso merchants of the metropolitur AND province, but Colonel Hino, found only two |
Japanese subjects there. One won the Head of the Military College, the other the Principal of a local school-Japan Daży Mail.
