Mr. Halls then a student, and was engaged to Miss Barrar, the mzange- ment being that the marriage should take place after he had settled down at Penang. One afternoon they went out together, and Mr Hall induced the petitioner to ge to the Registry Office, where the register was signed and they were duly married. The proper notice had previously been given by Mr Hall, The petitioner, in her nvidence, stated that she was not aware that she wont through the ceremony of inarriage. They were in the neighbour hood of the Registry Ofice when Mr Hall said to her, “Come inside and let us put down our naine to get married in Penang." She hesitated, and he replied, *** Come long; don't be stupid," Froceeding, the

In his letters he said how unfortunate it was that he must always remain a bacheler, he referred to her lov ing another man, ho spoke of his intention of marrying her in the future, and again he talked of the impossibility of it.
