A MATRON of the Y.W.C.A. HOME
Neuritis, Lassitude, Neuralgia-
Almost everyone has known that feeling af relief and thankfulness when they have found someone who could be depended upon without doubt or disappointment, whose word can be accepted unquestionably-well that is what the writers of these letters are, men and women who are to be ‘depended upon. A wide and practical experience makes such statements, for instance, as those of Miss-Morris, who is matron of a Young Woman's Christian Association Home, worthy of the closest attention, for, knowing how greatly girls and young women workers suffer from Neuritis (verbus exhaustion), she positively affirms that Phosferine may be absolutely depended upon to speedily dispel the disorder, and restore ile flagging health.
Quite Gone.
Miss I. M. Morris, Matron, Y.W.C.A. Home, 2, Poplar Walle, Croydon, writes:There is nothing in my estimation approaches Phoeferine as an anfailing restorer of flagging health. In my expérience I have found it so great a belp thu I cannot tell you half the good it has done, nor the number of young lives it has brightened, that had previously been subject to these terrible nerve complaints- Neuritis and Neurasthenia. The personal benefit I obtained from its use in these distressing affections was surpris- ing, and now I always have a 4/6 bottle handy, as autongst se raany hard working girls (our boarders being mostly clerks and teachers) it is a boon to know of something that will quickly restore vitality and give back to the pain-racked workers renewed energy and efficiency, which is so essential to their success in business life. In cases of Neuralgia and Nervous Break- down I have found in equally useful; and in my opinion rt stands unrivalled as a reliable restorative."-January 30, 1908.

Flous ate capable of withstanding immersion without harm in the majority of the most pawerful bacteria killing disinfecting Auids. Thus for example, Captain Gloster has shown that fleas will emerge unsched from in. exposure of ton minutes in a solution of so powerful a bactericide as a I in 600 dilution of sck perchloride of mere cury. On the other hand, he has shown that the fleas exposed to the action of an emulsion of kerosine oil in a dilution of 1 in 1,000 for two minulca are almost always killed while this substance fails to kill bacteria even in a dilution of 1 in 10,:

MONDAY,
THE EXPERIMENTS DETAILED ABOVE were carried out in test tubes, the disinfectant being thes, brought intimately in contact with fleas. It was necessary therefore to test the oficiency of these disinfectants in actual plague-infected rooms. On the one hand, the Plague Research Commission luna shown that infected rooms still retain their infection after thorough disinfection with so paver ful a germicide a 1 in 750 acid perchloride, of mercury. Of 21 observations infaction ! remained in the houses after this form of disinfection in 13 casos, or-29 per cent. of the houses, oxamined, a percentage which was almost exactly the sam 48 that found in houses which had not been disinfected at all. On the other hand, Captain Gloster has been able to prove that lague-infected rooms can be readily dis infooted by the application of emulsion of korsiue vil: The folowing fur- ther experiments were further carried out. A small room or godova was infected with plague. A guinea-pig which had been placed in it was found dead of plague on the 24th February. The dead guinea-pig was; romieved and replaced by a healthy

A fourth guinea-pig was placed in the godown. It died of plagio on the 9th March. A fifth guino pig was then introduced and being sick of plague, on the 11th, it was chloroformed to death. The godowa was thus proved to be thoroughly infected. On the 11th the floor of the godown was thoroughly washed out with kerosino oil emulsing Fur 20, and on the following day a healthy guinea-pig was introduced. This guinea-pig romainet healthy and in the godown tillgå 9th April experiment was repeated in the case of another godown, three se cessive guinea-pigs laying died of plagua in it. The godown was then disinfected with 1in 20 dilution of kerosine oil emulsion, On the following day a healthy grinca-pig was placed in the godown. This guinea pig lived for days in the godown onde maired well. In both the above instances, very indly infected gedown was rendered safe by the floor being washed out with a in 20 dilution of kerosine oil auulsion.
The majority of the substatices tested were patent products, and the tests wore mado with the samples sent for trial. In view of the fact that the composition of the subslaccus are not definitely stated, it is alanya posible to vary the quality of patent disinfectants without greatly ing their physical properties. An example of this practice came to our notice. For the above reason and in view of the fast that kerosine oil can always readily be ob tamod in any village

I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE USE OF KEROSINE OLL. EMULSION for the disinfection of this sort when in can with advantage bo carried out. The kerosine oil emulsion cu be readily prepard if three parts of sunlight up are dissolved by boiling in ditson parts of water. Warmed kerosine of is added to this soup solation gradually up to 109 parts. This oil and 30ap water should be mixed together Sets of Balls, Standing and Romping Gear shaking or stirring the whole. Hydrocarbon
in first-class condition. emulsion is prepared in a similar way to kerosine oil emulsion, but in this case the hydrocarbon need not be warmed. This sub. stance rakesa better emulsionin water tharg kerosing all does, and it had a bactericidal power slightly greater than that of carbelic acid, the greolic acid co-efficient being: about 2. It has, however, the disadvan- tages that it his more inflammable and has to many a rather disagrecable odour. It can generally be secured from those Railway Companies who manufacture their illu minasing mas for their railway carriages from Xerosine oil. Hydrocarbon is a dye ̈ product: In this manufacting it separates Fout from the gas when the gas is subject to pressure on being compressed into the retorts used for storing
