Avery, assistant gyneral manager of the line, who, accompanied by Mrs. Avery, arrived at San Francisco on the 7th July on the Americ-mg from the Orient, where he has been making prupamtions for laveling the Tonyo. maru, which will be the first of the now vessels completed.

Mr. Avery said "The company in- tends to replace the three present vessels with three larger ones, and the object of my visit to the Orient has leen, to attend to the preliminaries of the construction of | this fleet. The America-warn, which is making its last visit to this part, thú Hong. kong-maru and the Nippon-mart will be placed in service between the Orient and South American port. The ressels which we now have touching at South American ports are only chartered, and these charters will be cancelled.
