World's Largest Cruiser.

On March 16 the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Cavan, launch- ed the armoured cruiser "Indomitable" for the British Gayanment, who being the fist of three sister boats, the pher, two hoing built by Messrs John Brown and Co. and Sir W. At the lunchoon which followed the launch, Sir William G. Pearce, Bart., who presided, in proposing HM.S.Indomitable," said that alio was. the largest cruiser in the world, and they wore glad to have been able to launch her hofore the other ships of the sang class- which were being built. In referring to the "Dreadnaught," he said that her construc tion was a great achievement for the dock. yards. It was an extraordinary, perform- ance, but he had an 'iden that if private buildors had the facilities that were given to the constructors at Portsmouth-if the materials were all nudo randy-they would assemble these materiale and knelt the ship nearly as soon as the dockyard had dame. In referring to the new Programme hu said that there was a certain amount of disappointment among private buildors over the way the new constructions had been placed, and he thought it was mis take to place the whole of the now work n the dockyards. Recent experience-bas shown that a certain proportion in the

Rear-Admiral Bearcroft, in responding said that the sucees of the "Indomitabla' was fairly well neured by the saccess of the ships which had previously both built by the Fairfield Company. In proposing The Fairfield Company," Lol Balfour said they all took a pride in the skill and high position of the Fairfield Compony, who were doing great work, wot only for Goran, but for the Clyde and for Scotland.
