Shortly after noon to-day a sudden thun derstorat
struck the city and swept across the harbour, leaving in its trail wrecked sampane and cargo boats. For some time before the storin burst the darkoning sky
and lowering clouds gave warning that storm was impending and then the light gradually faded until in most ofices it was almost impossible to see without the aid of artificial light. Buddenly there was a gust) of wind, which came with great force, bringing with it a perfect deluge of rain. In reany of the offices open doors violently banged, the wind and rain burst in at the opon windows, while in one or two cases windows were broken and portions of the roof carried off. The water came down the hillsides into the city with a rush and along the lower levels many of the streets were Rooded.
