ENTERTAINMENTS AT

CANTON.

(From Our Correspondent.)

CANTON, Jan. 11.

Lover of music in Canton experienced a great treat on the evening of the 4th inst.,- when the Band of the "Fürst Diamarok, who came up frem Hongkong on 9.M.8. **Lucho," pave a concert in the Canton Club Thestre. They in no way belled their reputation of being one of the best bande -out East. The audience, though not very large, was keenly appreciative and at the close of the evening voted the nonsert ans of the best ever heard in Canton.

Miserable From Itching-Cured Before Using One Complete Set of the Cuticura Remedies-Now

Says: "It Ought to Be

A HOUSEHOLD WORD

The weekly Cinderella danes took place THE NAME OF CUTICURA"

on Tuesday -les, and though there was somewhat of a deficiency of the fairer sex, the dance passed off agreeably.

Last night & Variety Show was given in the Theatre by the well-known Ramidales, and it may be said that their performaNDO" wes quite on a par with similar shows st Home. Especially plessing was the fact that the whole performance was la excel- lent taste and entirely free from any taint of valgarity, pare harmless fun and mirth being the key-ante of the whole entertain. ment: The Ramsdales proceed up the Coast to Shanghai, calling on the way at! Swatow, Amoy and Fanchow. Thog will

· probably stay ence days in Shanghai, and, it is believed, intend to visit the Northern porte somewhat later.

VOLUNTEERING.

The Sanders', Čup.

On Saturday afternoon the 15 pounder B. I. qua competition was held on the Volunteer Parade ground. Major. A. Uhap- man (Acting Commandant) and Captain Thompson, R.G.A., were the judges, while Bergeants White and Windsor, both of the H.G.A., were also in attendance.

The competition is one for Half-Com-- panias of the Volunteers, but of the four- Half-Companies only three put in an appearstice-Left Half No. 2 Company, Captain Skinner, being absent. Of the athers Right Half No. 2 and Left Half No I turned out in strong force, but the turn- Gut for Right-Hall No. 1 was extremely poor. Out of over forty men only tan turn. ed out-eight gunners and two corporals; not a sergeant put in an appoarancs. Cap. tein D. Macdonald and Lisats. Plummer

and Kennett were present,

In turn each Ball Company brought the gune la position, ranged, thom on a givea target and went through the general firing drill, the officers meanwhile being examin. An imaginary cavalry ed in ranging, etc. Attack was ropulsed and the gun limbered up and pulled away.

We understand that the competition between Right Half No. 2 and Left Half No. 1 was close, but that Right Half No. 2 Right Half No. 1 were third-out won. of three Half Companies competing.

Hongkong, January 14, 1998,

"I broke out with eczema through get ting a severe cold. I was covered on my chest, back and limbs for five weeks I could not rest day or night. I took one vial of Cuticurs Pills and used one box of Cuticuta Ointment and one cake. of Cuticura Boap. I was cured beform-

had used one set of the Cuticurs Remedies. I read about the cures of Cuticurs in the papers. I thought what they had done for one they could do for another, but after I had used Cuticura I Boap for a day or two I believed it Was a priceless remedy for anything, It was given a trial: In fact, I scarcely believed I was cured in so short a time, and I felt much better and stronger than I did before taking the set of Caticura Hataedics. I shall not forget to recommend them to any one. "If any one knew what the Cuticura Rem edles can do, there would not be so anny doctor's bills to pay, when you can get a cure at a trifling cost. It ought to be a household word, the name of Cuticura, I should like to tell you, before I conclude, the rash made me feel so ill. Iitched so and how miserable I was.. I used the Soap and Ointment and felt better after the third applica tion. I felt they were doing me good feel ill! -but to be cured, and not

I consider them remarkable remedies, and if only people know what they nas do for them, they all would want to-be fit to try them. I beg to say I never fell Batter than I do at present. T. Alfred Watson, Well House, Stocks bridge, nr. Sheffield, Eng., Feb. 19, 1900."
