The Chinese cry for the "recovery of rights" is chiefly alued agafuat Japan. China has already succeeded in replacing Japanese Military notes and coins circulat- ing in Mancliaria by Chineso silver. Chinese students returning from Japan are 48a rule unfriendly towards Japan, while those from Europe are friendly.
The former uulnumber the latter by thousands. Whatever may be the cause of | Uhis anti-Japanoso feeling in China, this article concludes, nothing is further from the truth than the notion prevailing among foreigners that China and Japan are likely to niske common cause against the Western nations.
NEW OPEN PORT IN KYUSHU,
A Rival to Moji.
The harbour-worka at Omuts will be som ploted next year, and the port will then be opened to fumiga trade. Mesere Mitaui have undertaken the improvements, and are expected to use the port largely for their trade. This will greatly affect Ku- chinotsu, sage the Nagaski Press, the trade of which is confined to the export of the faraoue Mike coal, the property of the Mitsui Bugaan Kaisba.
Hitherto raw cotton and cotton yarn for the mills of Kuramo and Miike have been imported through Moji, but it is expected to enter through Omuta when the latter is opened. The value of this trade is said to he more than four million yen sonually. Manure, which is imported through Moji for the Chikago river valley, will probably Ire landed at Omura also. Misumi, an open port near Kumamoto, will be rendered useless by the opening of Omuta according to present reports, Nagunki, however, will be the least affected of Kyushu ports by the addition to their number,
