Cantons continue in request at $330 to $340, but few shares appear to he available except at an advance. Yangtazes and North Chinas remain unchanged and without any local business.

Fire Insurances.-Hongkonga continue out of favour and without sales at $920. Chinas, after small sale at $88, have improved to 889 with buyere, The latter Company's report just published recom- menils a dividend of 95 per share.

Shipping.-Hongkong, Canton and Hácnos have ruled rather weaker with sales and sellers at $244. Indos continue neglected at $97 with little or no business. Douglases have changed hunds at $40 and more shares are wanted at that

rate.

China-Manilas continue in request at

$21′ without, bringing any shares on the market. Other stocks under this heading continue dull and neglected, and we have no business to report.

Refineries.-China Sugars, with a few shares on offer apparently for settlement bocount, have ruled rather easier and 2214 has failed to sssure buyers, Luzons have declined to $99 with sellers and no sales.

Mining. With the exception of Raubs, which have declined to $3, we have no- thing to report under this heading.

Hongkong Volunter Troop

The members of the Hongkong Volunteer Troop took part in a competition yesterday, which required a display of general Teomanry attainments. The troopers work. Ing in pairs, were started at intervals of 20 minutes from the bottom of Wong-nei- cheong Hill by Sergeant-Major Hudson. Each pair rode to Wong-noi-cheong Gap, at which place the odd number dismounted with rifle and proceeded by the shortest route to Deep Water Bay to which place the even number had in the interval led his partner's pony by road. Arrived here, the odd number fired five rounds at a target and there-after carried out an order com municated to him; and having completed this he mounted his own pony and led his partner's back by rond to Wong-noi-cheong Cap. Meanwhile the even number had Bred five rounds at a target and carried eut a given order, afterwards returning by the shortest route to the same point as his partner and; having remounted his pony, returned with his partner to the starting point. Fifteen minutes were allowed in which to complete firing and execute the written orders handed to them and draw & map of the island as well.
