Bernhardt Rejine, Jeanne Granier, Simone Lo Bargy, and Georgette Lebline. Maeterlinck, the famous French actresses, have given their opinions on the English girl' to the Lady's Realm, and the admira- tion which they profoss for the beauty of the British woman is so whole-souled as to induce the reflection that the brilliant Parisiemes have had one eye on the pay. box while. they poured their tale into the interviewer's ear. We append extracts from the interviews.
The divine Bara; What do I think of
the English girl? Well, first, as regards her beauty, she is, when. really beautiful, the most perfect type on earth. She is the very incarnation of the Greek ideal in deportment. And strange to say, that
per fection and that nobility of expression are remarkable slike in all classes in England. I have often admired the faultless, dignified beauty of many a grande, dame of Mayfair, and havo alsó stood in mute contemplation..... before the grave, admirably chiselled features of the London workgirl or a hat-
maid. Yes, the English girl when beautiful isa upremely so I She looks so distingue, toof Her bearing, her demarche, truly reveal the'goldeda sung by the Roman poet, Incessu. Dea &atuit.
On the intellectual side, Madame Bern- hardt finds the English girl remarkably 'quick in her appreciation of art and litera ture; is frankesmest, and nall-rollsfit- qualities that are doubtless due to the education she recaires.". practical and liberal

The gift of the English git to thoroughly basimilate and appreciate an art foreign to theirs is simply wonderful. restricted education and freedom they enjoy, thanks to which they get the sum mum of enjoyment or profit out of opery thing they do, see, or hear. I also find that the English girl is superior to the French girl, because she is more self-reliant and independent.. * The Frenh "girl. who speaks another language than her own is an exception. Here almost every girl or woman I meet understands French.

AMERICA'S PENSIONS.
One-third of Revenue.
Amories is already the most pension- sccurged country in the world. Everybody there has a pension, or means to have one. There aro pensions for men who have fought for their country, persions for those
who have suffered in health through wars: there are pensions for the widows and children of auch servants, of the country. the Ranging from £5 to £500 per annum, pansion aggregate an
enormous sum. Pensioners never die, or at any rate their names continue marvellously perpetuated on the pay-roll. Forty years ago the entire pensions of the country did not reach £30,000 a year. In 10 years they had jumped to £8,000,000, and in 10 years | more to £11,000,000, while a few years ago they had attained to the enormous sain of £80,000,000 a year. Pensions absorb one-third of the entire revenue of the United States! The authority for these statements is the Evening Standard.
