Details have been published at Paris, of the experiments at Melun with the bovine Vaccine of Professor Bohring. At the re

Behring said that he believed himself able to cure tuberculosis in anima's, and that he hoped it would not be long before he could cure it in human beings. There seems to be a great deal of confusion as to whether or not the experiments at Melun confirm Professor Behringa atatement. So far KU can be made out, the experiments had to do with rendering cattle immune from tuber- culosis, not with curing those which are already affected.A vxcoine was used, not B serum

The work was done by M. Vallée, Pro- fessor of Veterinary School of Alfort. In boment to the Malin, bi Valle says that the effect of the vaccine lasts about two years. As the life of cattle averages about ait yeard, it would be neccssary to vaccinate them two or throe times during their life: "Buty of Courto," 1376 it is possible that the period of influence has been over-catimated, just as in South Africa it was found that the effects of inoculation against enterio fever did not last so long as was at first supposed. Midshipman Meriwether's

Punishment.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 12.

In execution of that portion of the sen- tence of Midshipman Minor Meriwether, Jr. (who cauard the death of a comrade in a boxing contest), requiring that he be

*“ publicly-reprimanded by the Secretary of the Navy," Secretary Bonaparte has addres- ged the following letter to Midshipman Meriwether at Annapolis:

"Sir: You have been duly convicted of violating clause "S of article 8 of the articles of the government of the Navy, by insulting and subsequently hasnulting -one of your fellow-midshipmen, and of con- duct to the prejudice of good order and discipline, by engaging in a fist fight with the same midshipman. These offences on your part have led to a calamity so clearly unforeseen by you and so distressing that Do words of reproach can be needed to make you feel their gravity. Your dis- obedience to the laws of your country; your forgetfulness of the full import of your oath; your yielding to fiery and angry passions when tempted by a sense of wrong have borne fruits so bitter that your woret punishment has been already auffored. The merciful sentence of the Court which tried you leaves you a member of the honourable profession you have chosen. In that great school of self-sacrifico and obedience a life useful to your country will, it is hoped, atone for the grave faults which have clouded the early years of your service.

"You will acknowledge receipt of this letter and it will be entered on your officia record, Respectfully,

"CHARLES J. BONAPARTE, **Secretary.

to the effect that hazing is no longer prac- tised at the Naval Academy, a case occurred there last night. The victim was Midship- man Jordan Pettus Kimbrough, of German- town, Tenness. Last week he was called before a board of officers now in session at -the academy Inquiring Into hazing, fighting and similar practices, and compelled to answer certain questions. It is said that he had also told some relatives that he had been hazed and that the relatives laid the matter before the authorities. The hazing last night was on account of these two things.

Midshipman Kimbrough was compelled to stand on his head, then on his feet, and this. then on his head again, repeating process for ten minutes continuously. At the end of that time he fainted and was left in that condition by the hazers. Later he was found by his room-mate still un- conscious. This morning he was carried to the hospital, but is now doing well.

Rear-Admiral James H. Fands, super- intenden! of the Naval Academy, had the matter investigated by a board of of cors this morning. Their report showed that Midshipman Tretomore Coffin, Jr., a member of the third class, took part in the hazing, and that Midshipman Warren A. Van Dorver, of the second class was on duty and did not report the occurrence.

AN OLD SAILOR'S LIFE SAVED.

A retired sailor of the British Navy, Mr. Charles Harrison, now employed on the London, Chatham and Dover Railway as a signal fitter, lives at 19, Stewarts Lane West, Battersea, London, S. W. Up to January, 1905, Mr. Harrison always enjoyed good health, but then he suddenly began to "feel wrong." It was the beginning of a severe attack of indigestion, which lasted for menthe, and nearly cost him his life. How he was cured by naing Mother Seigel's Syrup he tells you in this sworn statement, which is supported by the testimony of some of his friends and neighbours.

"I, Charles Harrison, of 19, Stewarte Land West, Battersea, in the County of London, do solemnly and sincerely declare as follow:-

That I feel in daty bound to register my testimony to the value of Mother-Seigel's Byrup, for I know that it saved my life. About the middle of January last, I began to lose appetite, and all the rap seemed going out of me. I grow quite weak and thin, and suffered with head pains and dizziness. On the 7th of February I had to give up my work and declare on the clab. I was in the doctor's -hands for about a month, when I returned to work, and struggled.on for a week or so; but I had to give in once more, and go back home worse than ever. I was now in a torrible stato;

"After eating I had terrible pains, and chin, my, would sit with my knees drawn up to pressing my stomach, er roll across chairs, to relieve the agony. The only, relief was when I managed to throw up all I had eaten. That was little; indeed I was living, not on food,, but on my own, body, and from over thirteen stone weight, I was reduced to about seven.. I could hardly stand; I was dizzy, weak, and often on the point of fainting. Next I went

into hospital. Here they wanted to operate on

me, but I would not consent, and came out
