In reality quite the contrary was case. Certainly the Emperor's speech was not received with acclaim that would: have been inappropriate considering its serious contents, but the German people have gratefully recognised that the Monarch has not glossed over the difficulties of the situation with a few diplomatic words, but that through his public statement of these.. difficulties he has at the same time mani- fested his confidence in his people. Evod in democratio circles, the
motivo has not been attributed to the Emperor, that he intended his speech as an artifice to facilitate the granting of the naval proposals. Rather is it the case in these circles also that meu instead of being deceived as to the real situation are acknowledging the duty of the nation to strengthen its means of defence against unwarrantable attacks. If the above information is correct the affair was even more serious than our former correspondout stated, though he mentioned that two or three of the German soldiers, and one in particular, were in a very precarious condition and three, alluded to above probably, succumbed to their wounds. The affair appears to have byen the most serious international fracas that has taken place at any time among the troops.
BY WHARF AND WAVE.
The Șues Cinal Collision. An action arising out of the disastrous collision in the Suez Canal between the
Chatham" and the liner "Olan Cum ming" has been decided by a Home court. The "Chatham" claimed against the "Olan Cumming's" owners for the loss of the ship, cargo, and crew's effects on the ground that the entire loss was occasioned by, or was consequent on, the collision, alleged that the "Clan Cumming "attempt ed to pass the "Chatham" before that vessel bad moored, and bad-exhibited the signal permitting her to pass; that she was pro- ceeding at an excessive speed that her engines were not duly or in due time eased, or stopped, and reversed that she failed to bring herself up or to let go the proper or any anchor, or to do "so in duo and aufficient time; and that she improperly put and kept her helm to port.

The defondants made a counter claim and alleged that the "Chatham," when lying PORTLAND & ASIATIC STEAMSHIP moored alongside the Asiatic bank, im- properly ght under way after she had seen the searchlight of the "Clan Cumming" approaching from the south; that she failed to bring up and make fast for the "Olan Cumming" to pass her, or to do so in duo timo; that she neglected to make use of an electric searchlight so constructed as to. admit of rapid splitting up of the beam of raya into two separate segments with a dark euctor in the middle, as required by the Canal regulations; that she falled to blow her whistle when approaching the "Olan Cumming"; that she proceeded at an ex-stol will be landed and stored at Con-
cessive speed, and failed to slacken her speed or to stop or reverse her engines, or to do so in due time; and that she omitted 2181 to let go her anchors, or to do so in due time, or to tako proper steps to a old the collision. It will baremembered that aftor the collision the "Chatham" caught fire, and as it was feared that the flames might spread to the forehold, which was filled with 6,300 cases of dynamite, each contain. ing 50 lb. of the explosive, and 160,000

It wasn't until I had finished the fourth box of Doan's Pills that they seemed to be doing me any good, but I persisted with the medicine, and with the fifth box there was a decidedly free action of the bladder. No other med cino had ever helped me at all, HONGKONG and you can imagine how delighted I was at this relief. For six months I continued
with Doan's Backache Kidnoy Pills, and then I was entirely cured of the stricture and kidney disease. From that day to this there hasn't been any sign of the old complaints returning.
My suffering and my card are well-known to hundreds of men I have worked with in London, and I am sure that had I not used Doan's Backache Kidney Pills when I did,
