The main fact for the serious consideration of Englishmen is that sailors of their nationality are steadily decreasing in numbers and that is a state of things which England can never afford to regard with equanimity or in- difference. CURE FOR DRUNKENNESS.
The Rev. Prebendary Paget, - Rura) Deng
1 of St, Paneras, presided at the St. Pancras Ruridiaconal Church of England Temperance Society's last annual meeting. The Rev. Hugh Chapman (hon, segre- tary to the Normyl Treatment Association) having pleaded for the unity of the profes. sors of all religious creeds on this question of temperance, proceeded to explain the Normyl treatment, which he believed to be He was a cure for the drink evil. glad to tell them that out of 28) cases, 26C had proved eminently successful. They had started an office at 87, Victoria- street, in which to carry on this work, and in less than five monthe they had sold 760 treatments, and of that number u) to now ho could only count 30 failures (cheers). They had had to deal with some of the very worst cases possible. It was not a question of temperance, but of dealing with people suffering from drunkenness who had been given up by the doctors, and had been a perfect nuisance to their friends. Ho con- cluded. With the fullest sense of the responsibility of my words I tell you that these men and women have been cured and that in my opinion there is not a single man or woman desirous of being cured, however bad they may bo, who will not by the grace of God and by this treatment bo rendered entirely anne and entirely froe, I intend to devote
vote my life to this cure, of which I would rather be the pioneer than Archbishop of Canterbury.

would occur in war by the use of soveral patterns. The changes now in hand will simplify the existing conditions into something approaching uniformity.
The Pioneer of India states that the military authorities are introducing a 100lb, 4hell in place of the 1221b. one for the 6in. howitzer, and that a maximum range of 7200 yards will be secured with it. Tho 6.4in. howitzer is to have a shell of 50lb. instead of 60lb., and it is confidently. ex- pected that a range of 6700 yards will be obtained. This means an advance of 2000 yards with each description of these heavy pieces; and, presumably, the accuracy of fire at such ranges has been placed beyond doubt. The 30-pounder breech loading gun, now used in two of the heavy batteries, and the 4in. breech-loading 250wt. guns in two other batteries are eventually to be replaced by in. guns 60lb.

TORTURES AVERTED.
STOMACH TROUBLES OF THREE TRANSVAAL →→ WOMEN OURED BY USING MOTHER SEIGEL'S SYRUP.
Scienco knows no nationality, its revelations benefit all mankind. For instance, the discovery and use of chloroform has averted a world of pain, of physical anguish, among people of all countries. It is not too much to hope that Science, aiding the community of interest, is destinod finally to bring about universal brother- hood. When critically examined, differencez between the races. prove far less important than is generally supposed. The blood of a Kaffir and the blood of a white man look just alike. under all scientifie tests. Nearly all of the best- known diseases find their victims among all races; and Indigestion, in particular, afflicts the miner and the mountaineer, the millionaire and the labonzer, indifferently. Both sexes, of every age and occupation, are liable to it, and its provalence is the cause of much pecuniary loss and distress.
Science has provided en antidote to Indiges. tion-and the long train of ills that follow it, when pucheakod-in Mother Seigel's Curative Syrup. Among people who liave proved this by actual experience is Mrs. S. Brown, of 0, Park Street, Jeppestown, Transvaal, who wrote thus on February 6th, 1905: "I first made the acquaintance of Mother Seigel's Syrup in the öld country, eleven years, ago, and it was a fortunate day for mo. I suffered intense pain in my chest and stomach, and dreaded to eat, knowing full well the torture that would soon follow Days of pain were followed by restless nights, and I seldom obtained more than two or three hours of sleep at a time. This continued for about a year, when I began to take Mother Seigol's Syrup. I was benefited by the very frat doso. Continuing its use, I was moon completely cured, and from that day to this my health has been good."*--
The experience of Mrs Alletta Harth, of 10, Maddison Street, in the same town, does not differ much from that of Mrs. Brown. suffered from a heart trouble which alarmed me greatly

Mr. Wm. Mears; after an active life. was laid helpless dy a Paralytterible tsial to reks. Dr. William Pink Fills him, there
rapidly imprmed im
fore, for it
laid him prostrate.
This is his account of the stroke, its con- sequences, and his curo, reported by the Bolton Chronicle:
On Easter Monday, five years ago, my head suddenly began to spin. I seemed to hear a tremendous smash of crockery. I bad had a Paralytic Stroke.
For weeks.' continued Mr Mears, I was under the best medical treatment. My left side had become practically useless, and I was so unnerved that my greatest I had racking pains in wish, was to die. the head, and aching limbs. I was a physical wreck, and food and everything elso was diatasteful. As a result of the paralysis my sight began to fail and I lost my memory-two terrible affictions.
I read of the wonderful effects of Dr. Williamo' Pink Pills and tried thom." 'Well, and what was the result ?'
I took five bottles altogether, but experienced benefit before I had finished In the first place, they the first one. cleared my head... The pain left me, and my vision improved. Now I can read the smallest print. My memory came back and fa as good as over. Appetite and indigestion improved. I sleep well every night, and rise before six in the morning."
And what about your limba 1. There also a great improvement has set in. Instead of having to be carried about everywhere, I go myself, and, at my own pace, I can go miles without fatigue.. Dr. Williams' Pink Pills worked marvela for me.
I am a king to what I was.' Seeing that they are proved to cure the very worst forms of nervous disease; A Paralysis, Locomotor Ataxy, and curvature of the spine, it is not suprising that Dr Williams' Pink Pilla oure lighter cases as sciation, St. Vitus' dance, neuralgia, ne vous breakdown, and lame back. For anemia, Consumption, indigestion, rheumatism, and all disorders arising from poor or bad blood, and for all the troubles that ladies suffer in silence, they are unrivalled. A bottle will be sent for 2s. 9d. by Dr Wil liams' Medicine Co., Holborn-viaduct, London, England. But they can be had at most medicine shops if purchasers will take care to see the fall name (seven words) on the package.
