The organ of the Agrarian party, which is evidently annoyed that so much atten tion has been drawn by great public meetings to the aggrandisement of the landowners, «nska why the working class should want meat at all. Formerly, it Says, workmen's families were content with black bread and dripping, with an occasional treat in the form of a piece of fat bacon. Even to-day the bulk of the working clasa in Germany has not got beyond pork or bacon, or sausages made of Inferior pork, and it is the exceedingly high price of this class of mest that bar aroused such a storm, ・ An idea of the increase in the price of pork may be obtained from the following figures, sufi. 1376 plied by the Berlin Municipal Slaughter-

THE RUINED INDUSTRY
OF BAKU.
Warfare Between Armenians' and Tartars.
ومت
ST. PETERSBURG, Sept. 8. Inter-racial warfare and incondlariam have done their work in Baku, and have completed the ruin for years of the great oil industry of that Caspian port, though the latest dispatches indicate that the military have gained the upper fond in the town itself, and that the steadily arriv fog reinforcements promise to turn the tide In the outlying district and to enable the troops to drive the Tartars from their posi tions around the city and to re occupy the suburban town.
Thero is little left unburned above the ground in the outlying oil fields of Balak- han, Sabunto and Bibiebat, from which the crude oil supply for the Baku oil industry is drawn.. All the extracting plants, including derricke,` pumping establish, mento, and the oil roservoirs in which the
crude oil is stored have been destroyed.

flood of burning oil, which it was impossible to extinguish. A largo portion of the 'black town * quarter, in which most of the refineries were located, was also burned. The fipaneial loss has not yet been established, but It will run into the millione. It is stated that the loss in crude oil, which will run t› waste until the rosor.. voirs can be rebuilt and the refineries again started, will amount to £40,000 d-ily,
The bloodshed alan has been appalling as the troops, in their efforts to restore order, had to defend the approaches to the town of Baku, and were forced to fight a regular battle with well armed natives, In which artillery was employed. The Tar tare and Armenians, in their fury, turned their weapons against each other. All the woll-to-do it babitants fed either by sea or overland to Tiflis. Unlike the recent trou- ble at Udessa the disorders at Baku cannot be traced to any underlying hostility to the Russian Government. It is not a revolu- tion, but an inter-racial war between the Armoniane and the natives based on the kame caused as the struggle in Armenia, ;
Both factors offered a stubborn armed resistance to the troops. The Tartare, -after driving the Russians ant Armenian operatives from the works, massacred. those who were unable to flea in time, plundered their houses and then applied the torch. The dispatches peak of several thousand killed or wounded in fighting at Bilakhan, where the Tartara were intrenched in force and more than held their own for a time against the troops.

The town of Baku lies in a steep, wallod amphitheatre on the southern shore of the Apaheron peninsula, with the oil fields on either ide, from which pipe lines convey the oil a few milea to the refineries in the town, Most of these refineries are located in the so-called or Balahkan oil field, where the heaviest fighting has taken place, ja fifteen miles north-east of B-ku. The Lion Rampant.'
Mr H. E ̈ Po look, K. C., (instructed by by Mr C. D. Wilkinson appeared in aup port of the application.
Mr Pollock read several affidavite in sup. port of the application, including one from Messro W. G. Humphreys and Company (the plaintiff Company's agents),stating that the plaintiffs rubber shoes marked with the *Lion Rampant trade mark were of very good quality and had acquired a consider able reputation in the Colony. The shoos in question, which it was desired to restrain the defendants from delivering were marked with a trade mask closely resembling that of the plaintiff's; they alleged a spuri ous trademark. Another sfildavit set out that an assistant employed by Messrs W. G. Humphreys had purchased a pair of shoes, supplied by a local company, at a retail shop for less than the plaintiff's wholesale prior.
Mr Pollock said that the defendant Company desired an order of the court to justify them in holding the goods. If these goods were allowed to go on the mirket the damage to his clients would be increased. Other proceedings had already been commenced against the firm that supplied the goods.
His Lordship held that there was a prima facie case of infringement and that the case was clearly one for an injunction, which he granted accordingly.
