Important Order by President Roosevelt.

Oyster Bay (L1), July 7.

An important-order was issued to night by President Rooser announcing the policy hereafter to be followed by the Administration in making appointments or promotions in the military branch of the. Government. The President ordera that if any officer of the Army or Navy hereafter shall solicit influences aside from the records of his sorviço on file in the War or Navy Department in order to obtain promotion

or assignment, he should bo debarred thereby from the advancomont.or detail which he is seeking. The order says:—

The records of the departments will con- talu full and detailed information in respect to the character, military services, and geno. ral attainments of all officers composing the military establishments. The records so obtained set forth the relative incrits of all ́ officers of all grades of ranks in the several branches of the line and staff and enable all vacancies which occur in the military service to be filled after a careful compari- son of the records of those officers who are oligible under the law for particular assign. monta or details.

The records of the Navy Department furnish evidence of the character, service and ability of all oflicers of the Navy, founded upon the official reports of those officers whose duty it is to make thom. The reports are sufficiently specific to enable the Department to determine the particular duty which each officer is fitted to perform without the intervention of

outside the Navy.

MR

R HENRY BOXER, living at 5, Westlake Road, Ro herhithe; Lon- don, England, writes:-Gentlemon,-I feel I must write to thank you for the great good my wife is deriving from Doan's Back. acho Kidney Pills. This time last year she was so ill with sciatica and kidney dis. ease that she entirely lost the use of her. limbs, and was unable to stand. I had to carry her about the house like a baby, The docfor sail that if I did not get her out of Loudon I should not have her very long, so 1 got ber down to Sheerness to some of her relations, who were very kind, to her. She was whiccled about in a bath-chair for three months, and although the change of air did her good, she was still unable to walk when she returned home. I made hor a pair of crutches, which improved matters little, and at this time a friend advised us to try Dasu's Backache Kidney Pills. I got some for my wife, and she seemed 1537 better after the second or third box, so she persevered with the medicine, and over since then she has made good headway, Sho does not get the awful pains in the back, and sho is quite another woman. I havo got her 30 boxes of Doan's Pills altogether, and her remarkable curo is the talk of the neighbourhood.
