There are also, of course, companies on the Canadian side.-- The structures of theso companies do not increase the picturesqueness of the locality, according to Dr. Clarke's photographs. The scale on which these various engineer- ing schemes are conceived may be imagined from the fact that they together propose to abstract 48,400 cubic feet of water a second. The actual flow over the falls is about The 224,000 cubic feet per second. American falls are immediately monaced It seems by this abstraction of water. therefore that harnessing Niagara is not without its diaidvantages, at any rate to the 800,000 tourists who are said annually to visit the falls,

Ruling by the Pulsne Judge.
During the hearing of a caso in the Summary Jurisdiction of the Supreme Court this afternoon Mr P. W. Goldring (defendant's solicitor) intimated that special defence had been raised, notice of which had been served on plaintiff's solicitor.
The Puiano Judge (Mr A. G. Wiss) pointed out that the Court should receive
a copy.
Mr Goldring-The Ordinance only re- quires that the other side should be served with notice.
Tho Puisne Judge-Yes; but I have laid this down repeatedly. When special de- fence is raised it must be filod in Court.
Mr Goldring pleaded ignorance, and the Puisno Judge allowed the special defence to be raised, pointing out that in futuro a oopy must be filed.

This morning a representative of the CHINA MAIL called as the King Edward Hotel to renew his acquaintance with Mir Eugen Sandow, who, together with his troupe of pupils arrived in the Colony Jast evening.
