ANY women have kidney trouble, but

by that name. They think only men have troubles, and that their own dull, heavy headaches, dizzy, tired foefings, faint spelle and irregular heart, come from some other

cause.

Sometimes they do. The kidneys are not the cause of all disonges, but they are the cause of most, because they have the most work to do.

It is thoir duty to filter the impurities out of the blood and for this purposo all the blood passes through the kidneys once every four minutes, day and night.

After walking for some two minutes, he almost stumbles into an obstruction; the left side of the gallery and seemingly the top have fallen in. It is in a soft portion of the tunnel lined with timbers, which aro splintered and lying all' about. He hastily garches the side walls for a gaugo mark showing the distance from the mouth. He finds one; he is twenty yards short of the tamping, and therefore the pile of soil and rock is just over the ends of the safety-fuse. Whilst standing, thoro ho hears strokes is guaranteed. We have 32 years'

and voices-voices-close to him. Ho half! draws his sword and waits.'

This explains the failure. His ears were right. The enemy have driven forward a tube and exploded a small countor-mine, smashing in the side of the gallery. Well, thoy soom to have succeeded in spoiling the attackers' plan, for the present, at any rate. It will be impossible to dig theso tons of earth off the fuzes under some hours;

the gallery is completely blocked. But stay. is it? He sees a small black patch of dark- ness on the right-hand top corner of the mound. Scrambling up, ho digs with his hands, and finds a moto "crast of earth.

Behind this the opening is just large en- ough to crawl through. He wriggles along on his belly between the earth and the roof for some ten yards, then the mound. slopos sway and ho stumbles down on to floor again in the small space between tho obstruction and the tamping at the end of the rünnel. Hodarts to the sido of the tun nel, and picks up two red ropen. These aro the instantaneous-fuzes. Captain Tama tga knows all that is to be known about fuses; bo knows that to light the instan taneous-fuso means death, as the flame would flash straight down to the charge before he could move. Not wanting to die uselessly, ho hoaves at the fuses to try and pall them, and the pieces of safety-fuse
