ST. PETERSBURG, May 23.- Admiral Rozhdestvenskyis dead. So say the reports that reach here unofficially. It is known that he has been seriously ill and that within the last few days his trouble has seemingly taken a fatal turn.
The old naval comniander tus sent to "the" authorities hore full tidings of his illness but had perhaps taken an optimistic view of things. Ho has been desperately ill since the fleet left Saigon and if he is ded it will create no surprise in the fleet.
Admiral Rozhdestvensky has not expec- ted to do more than take his ships to Vladi vostock or to 'etropaulovsk where he hoped to be able to make a start for his home in Russin. The appointment of Ad- miral Birilell as bis successor was made at hier instigation. He did not choose the man but urged that someone take his place as soon as possible.

There was a large congregation at the Roman Catholic church at Kowloon yoster- day morning when the ceremony of blessing the edifice
performed by the Rev. Father de Maria. The church, it will be remembered, was the gift of Dr A. S. Goines and was recently handed over by him to the Catholic body. Special launches werd run to Kowloon during the morning, the service taking place at 7.3).m, and at its conclusion Rev. Father de Maria decorated Dr Gomes with knighthood of St Gregory the Great and read the Papal com- mission conferring the decoration. Drable as follows:- Gomes replied expressing his appreciation of the honour conferred upon him. He was prompted to build the church in order to meet the special needs of the Catholic community at Kowloon and out of honour to the memory of his late parents and sis-
ter.
A sermon was then delivered by the Rev. Father Spada who took as his text
I have sanctified this house, whịch thou hast built, to put my name thero for ever, and my eyes and heart shall be there always. 3 Kings XIV. 3]
He said: The august ceremony which has been just performed of the blessing of
this magnificent edifice erected for the worship of the true God, reminds me of the fact that when Solomon inaugurated the temple of Jerusalem, God, in order to show how pleased He was with the work and its dedication, sent a fire from heaven which consumed all the victims offered, and twice a shining and majestic cloud appeared, thus announcing that God was
