THE WINDSOR WORKMAN AND THE PRETTY PRINCESS:
NEW YORK, Feb, 26, Joional special from Windsor. says: Frederick - Robert Naylor, a leather gider, whose wages are 244. a week, has- been placed in an insand asylum because of letters he has written to Princ Victoria, the King's unmarried daughter. There is a strong suspicion that Verlor is perfectly sano. Eight years ago Naylor, enraptured by the beauty of the Princess, wrote her the first of a res markable sories of beautiful letters, and, in - pure ✨ womanliness, the Princess – answered, This condescension brought Another, and with the passage of time the correspondence was continued Letwood the pair, and to the letters Naylor added postry, finally having printed for her be tween elaborate envers, a volume of his verses, bound by his own hands.
So far as can be learned, neither over made an effort to see the other, the affaire- being carried on in an entirely imporsonal and idyllic way. The fact of the secret correspondence was learned recently, and the police immediately took action. Naylor WAB removed to an insane asyluin, and on a drawer in his mother's home containing letters from the Princess a soal was placo 1, Naylor will probably be released on promise to destroy the letters written by the Princess.

South 1wajima. A submarine eruption was taking place. Volumes of smoke were dis- charged into the air, at one time a black and at other times a white or red onlour. The eruption continued for several days, and on December 6th a small isl nd was observed. It is about three thousand feet long and eighteen hundred feet wide.

It is certain to be needed before the winter is over, and results are much more prompt hod satisfactory when it is kept at hand and given as soon as the cold is contracted and before it has become settled in the system. In almost every instance a severe cold may be warded off by taking this remedy freely as soon as the first indication of the could appears. There is no danger in giving it to children for it contains no harm- ful subabice, It is pleasant to take both adaits and children like it. Buy it and you will get the best. permission from the Rapid Transit PUBLIC HOUSE, full Licence, good
Commission, The subway had boon opened scarosly a fort ight before it was evident that it would not be many months before the new road would be na congested! as the elevated and surface cars. It was: then seen that arrangements should. be made for longer trains. As it is now, while the expressos may run with eight to teu cars, the locals, which at certain hours of the day bear the brunt of traffic, must stick to the conventional five or six-cars, as the local stations have been built for that number.
The local station platforms are now 200| feet long, that is for five, or at a pinch, six. ear trains. To lengthen them for eight and ten car trains means they will prac tically be doubled and that nearly 200 feet! of excavation work must be done at each station simultaneously with the unimpeded running of subway trains.
Holes like mine shafts must be sunk somewhere in the streets, and may, for a time entirely block that section of the thoroughfare. One of the greatest problens in the work, as it was when the main sub- way was built, will be the rearrangement of pipes and sewers,

mo suffer from bleeding piles is torture indiscritable. Tot, there are thou- sanda enduring its terrible torture to-day who-are-unaware of the existence of such a valuable and absolute cure as Bile Bearis. The following account at how a miner was completely rid of bleeding piles by this medicine ia but one of many such being daily received by the proprietors of Bile Beans, from grateful sufferers. Describing her husband's suffering, Mrs Tom Metcalte, wife of a miner at Wingate Colliery, Dur- ham, England, says :—
As a consequence of working in wet soams, my husband was for many years a terrible sufferer from bleeding piles. His condition at length got so bad that he had to give up work; and for eleven months he was unable to do a stroke. His agony was at times awful, and he could not sit, stand, nor lie down. The only way he could get a little ease was by going down on his knees before the fire. A loctor who at tended him said an operation was the only thing to cure him. We got him mauy

Thousands of cases could be quoted similar to the above. In many instances, piles result from constipation; which in turn, arises from defective liver action. Bile Beans stimulate and correct the liver, and thus remove the real cause of the ail- ment. They are also a cure for indiges tion, biliousness, anteria, all female ail- ments, debility, and headache. Bile Beans are obtainable from all chemists and modi- cine vendors. The Customs Gazette, containing the reports of the Commissioners from the Treaty Ports for the quarter ended December 1904, which is published by the Inspector (ieneral of the Imperial Maitime Customs, affords food for reflection to commercial men. On the West River the condition of the trade is healthy and brisk, and the reports go to indicate that there will be a con- thutance of prosperity. dongkong Tides. The tide table given below has been compiled at the Nautical Almanac Office in London from the result of the analysis of observations taken by means of an au- tomatic tide-recording machine in the Wa- ter Police Basin at Tsim Sha Tsui during the years 1887-8-9,
The zero of the table corresponds with the zero of the soundings in the Admiralty Charts which has been found to be 4 feet 3 inches below mean sea level.
To obtain the depth of water on the tide gauge at the Victoria Naval Yard add 3 feet 4 inches, and on the gauge, at Lamont Dock, Aberdeen, add 10 feet 6 inches to the height given in the table.
Add 23 minutes 18 seconds to the figures given below to correct to Zone time.
