The Sammy Girls in Three Colors,

At the Lyric Theatre, London, ono after- noon last month, a most interesting and important new departure in three color photography was inaugurated by Dr. E. F. Grup, who took a picture of the last scens in The Earl and the Girl' after the morn ing performance was over.

Some tivo years ago it was announced that Dr Gran's discovery of a liquid lens had enabled him to tako photographs of theatrical and other subjects at night by the ordinary means of illumination, and without' "any of the additional flash- lights which for so long have added to the terrors of a public dinner. Photo- graphs of various actresses-taken by the light usually seen in their dressing-rooms, of scenes in different playa, and other theatrical matters, have already proved the efficiency of the new lons; but a further step has now been made, which shoul revolutionise the color printing of hand- bills, poste 8, and programmes, and which is capable of development in very many directions. The Daily Telegraph re- presentative was shown a photograph taken by the liquid lene, with 30sec. exposure through the red screen, 6 seo. through the green, and sec. through the blue, on a-

1370 Gem color plate, the blocks being printed

from the original negatives by Mosses Swain; and a very successful picture in the tints of Nature was the result.

As soon as the last morry notes of The Earl and the Girl' had died away, Dr. Grun

I heard somewhere quite recently that parent medicine verors would all go bank. rupt it their women customers failed them. While not believing this, I am still aware that the woman who has any amount of fads about physic is a very real person.

She is an animated pharmacopeia where the ailmente of her friends are concerned. and she sometimes i really quite danger. ous. She be a prettily built medicine obest in her room usually, and from it sho produces many a dose for the torment of her relations. She says she has be instinct to cure,' Some of us think she might perchance kill one these days if she does not restrain her ardour. In all serious- ness, while a knowledge of simple ailmente and their cure is valuable and womanly accomplishment, it is best to guard against all tendency to fads where medicine is con cerned,

We have no space to consider the woman with political fads--she is terrible, and talks overmuch-the woman with recrea tive fads-she is healthy if wearisome- pr the woman with educational fads, who is occasionally valuable, and many other types. It is best to conclude, with a mighty resolve to yield not to the influence. of faddists, or join their ranks oneself! -The Chronicle.

The officers deserve n word of commend- ation for the manner in which they impeted the operations, and for giving encouragement to the men under them. They did the same work, walked over the same distance, and generally performed exactly the same work as the men, with the

AXATINE is the mildest aperient known. It is pleasant in taste, not drastic but certain in action and even in large doses is harmless. Laxatine being non-irrit- able will be found a great boon, to ladies especially, and in cases where the kidneys are irritable or disoused. Laxatine is strongly recommended by the Continental Authorities

and is being largely used in the London hospitals. Messrs A. S. WATSON & Co. ED., have been appointed the Hongkong Agents for this preparation.
