The following table is a chronologically arranged hit of mail steamer sailings to Europe, America, Canada, and Australis. Coast ports, Manila, and Japan are not given, for steamers are constantly sailing for those ports. All the American steamers call at Japan, and the majority of the Australian boats Aspern

Leave to adduce evidence in support of an appeal by Mr Slade on behalf of the appollants was given some time ago, and in Answer to affidavits filed by the appellants the respondents had filed an additional affidavit this morning. In view of that fact Mr Slade made an application for an adjournment for a week. two documents in question, which wore written in Chinose, and in connection with

the translations of which there were dis putes.

His Lordship pointed out that the appel- lants had his ample time to get the necessary documents from Canton had they desired to do so, and it appeared to him that want of diligence had been displayed by them in that respect.

Mr Slade said that the question of want of diligence had already been gone into, and be had already explained that although he had extended every possible assistance to the opposing side, he himself had been driven for time throughout the whole proceedings. they had no time to get the document, they had a couple thodn case even had they known of its existence at the time, which they did not. There were a very large number of Chinese document to be translated and gone into, even though they did not appear in Court.

His Lordship intimated that they would' bear the application to adduce further evidence then, and if they granted the ap. plication sufficient time would be allowed the appellants to get what they desired.

Mr Slade then proceeded to place before: the Court the reasons in support of his ap plication for permission to adduce further evidence. He argued that under the terms of the judgment of Mr Gompertz in the Land Court the appellant had a title to

the land, although that title was a voidable one. The judgment of the Land Court as he read it was that the appellant had cer- tain rights, including the right to occupy the land. The rights were voidable, not because of the neglect to reclaim the land, but because the ground had never been placed on the tax register. At the end of the six years the land had not been reclaimed, and it was then lawful, under the translation of the title documents used in the Court below, which translations Mr Slade objected to, to confiscate the `land. Mr Slade then went on to quota from an affidavit by Mr Harston, dealing with the document in Canton, ‹ After con- sidenble argument Mr Slads stated that a copy of the document he required was in the possession of the respondents,

Mr Sharp admitted that they had had it in their possession for about a week. He was not opposed to its admission providing It was duly certified to.
