The mean temperature in "the", Gantok plain beyond the Khamba pasa is 12 degrees lower than the mean temperature here. The Grand Teshu Lama has been appointed spiritual ruler of Tibet in place of the Dalai Lama. The government of the country is now solely in the hands of the National Assembly, which is largely in fluenced by the monks of the three great monasteries. The Dalai Lama was never popular. The people are undemonstrative and are apparently indifférent about his deposition. The Ambao has posted a proclamation in Lhassa informing the people that by order of the Chinesa Emperor the Dalal Lama is deposed owing to his flight and desertion of his trust.

The zero of the tabla corresponds with Bakodate.,. the zero of the soundings in the Admiralty Tokio Charts which has been found to be 4 feet Kochi 3 inches below mean sea level.

The C. N. Co.'s 8.8. Tsinan, from Austra-ter lian Ports, left Sydney on Sept. 20th, and is due here on or about 13th Oct. The Indo-China 8. N. Co. Ld.'s 6.8. Kim sang left Calcutta for this port via The Straits on 4th Uct., and may be ex- pected here on or about the 20th Oct.

Java-China Japan-Lijn steamer Tjipanas left Kobe for this port on the 8th October, and may be expected the height given in the table. here on or about the 16th October.

The A. A. 8.8. Massapeqita left New York on 6th Oct., and is due here on or about the 29th November.

Latest Advices.

The O. P. R. Co.'s 8.8. Tartar arrived át. Kobe at 10.3 a.m. on Monday, the 10th October, and left again at 7 p.m.

on same day for Shanghai, where she

is due to arrive at 5 am. on Friday, the 14th October.

The N. Y. K. 8.8. Tawala Maru (Austra

lian Line) left Kobe, via Moji and Nagasaki for this port on the 11th October, and is expected to arrive here on the 18th October.
