Killed by a Pig.
A terrible occurrence was witnessed res cently at the Glasgow Dooks, Two prize pigs, which had been pinned on board a Canadian liner for shipment, began fighting furiously. A cattle drover entered the pen and strovo to separate them, when one of the piga a great, powerful brute-attacked him. Assistance was rendered, but the man when dragged out of the animal's reach was already dead, his body being horribly mutilated.
Married for Money,
An extraordinary marriage took place recently at Manchester. The contracting parties were cousins, whom their rich ancle, it was said, had refused to include in his will unless they agreed to be wedded. He made a deed of gift to them on this con- dition, and they came to a mutual agree- ment to go through the service and after wards art. The marriage was carried out accordingly, the bridegroom returning to his home in the Midlands immediately after the ceremony had been performed.

The Canadian Militia..
A telegram from London, dated August 1, atates that Sir F. W. Borden, Minister of Canadian Defence, has requested the Im- perial War Office to send an Imperial officer to assume the position of Chief of Staff of the Canadian Militia. The Canadian House of Commons has agreed to Mr Fitzpatrick's amendment to the Militis Bill. The amead- ment enables the Militia to serve outside Canada in case of emergency, for the defen- ce of Canada; subject to ratification by Par- liament within a fortnight of such service being sanctioned by the Government. The amendment proposed by Mr Fitzpatrick, in the Canadian House of Commons, defining the duties of the Militia, has been extended so as to enable the Government to send these troops to any part of the Empire.
