RUSSIA'S AWAKENING.
Will the States-General Form of
Government be Revived ?
Among those having access to the trend: of opinion in the inger official circles of Russia, as well as in the more influential classes of the nobility, there is a general agreement that the present war in the Far East means the doom of autocracy. A widespread feeling in favour of Parliamen- tary institutions does not, perhaps, exist for the very simple reason that the Russian |nation is without personal experience of their working, and the leading men are able to acquire only an imperfect and by no means impartial_iden of their methods through the study of Con- tinental models. Of these last that of the German Empire appeals most strongly to their imaginations, and for a variety of ronsons, of which not the least important is | that Parliamentary Government is consider. ed by Russians to be a failure in France, owing to the lack of stability imparted to the Administration; is believed to be more or less of a fraud as practised in the United States where the malign influence of caucuses and cliques has destroyed its use- fulness; and is adjudged to be changing its character in England in consequence of the increasing subordination of the House of
NE IOE-MAKING MACHINE, with Commons to the will of the Executive, and
GAS ENGINE Complete.

of the soul's dead flowers with my

And here, alone, for a single hour
I can touch the ghost of a passion flower-
I can catch the gleam of a vanished day.
I can gather the lilies of long ago
That bloomed by the path where a haby

Oh, blood-red lips and bosom of snow!
You are mine once more as in days of

Just for to-night, for at early dawn
I am back to the grovel of greedy lust; Where the wheels of traffic go whirring on, And souls are ground into golden dust. By Albert Bigelow Paine, in Tzudus Home Journal,
TTACKS OF COLIC, cholora murbus,
Apains in the stomach, dysentery and
diarrhoea come on suddenly and so often prove fatal before a physician can be sun- moned that a reliable remedy should always be kept at hand. Chamberlain's Colic, Cholora and Diarrhoea Remedy has no equal as a cure for these ailments. It nover fails to give prompt relief even in the must severe cases. It is pleasant to take and every household should have a bottle
at hand. Get it to-day. It may save a life. For sale by All Dealers; WATKINS & Co., Ltd., General Agents.
