The Fighting at Gyantes: Gyantus, June 30.-Part of the terms o
NE ICE MAKING MACHINE, with the armistios granted to the Tibetans, which extends until midnight, is that no one other than the emissaries leaves Gyantse Jong, both the Lha and Fhigatse roads being --- watched to see that this condition is enforo- ed. Tuchen Monastery, which was blown 1189 up by the Engineers in the fight of the 28th, is still smouldering. Talans in the Lhassa representative who is supposed to be com ing to-day. The Shigatse representative is a 'layman, a member of the Council of Four. Longsapenlop, the Bhutan Chief, negotiations can be completed here is is Also coming. Whether, however, the uncertain. The original programme was that the agreement was to be, signed in Ihassa. This petition for an armistice is far more likely to be due to the severe handling the enemy received in the two recent engagementa. Small reliance can.. be placed upon assertions of the desire to negotists until the actual arrival of the dologsten. After the engagement at Tuchen Monastery it is clear the boasted impregnability of Gyantse Jong is by no means certain and the morale of the enemy has been considerably shaken.

General Macdonald's main body arrived at 10-30. The British Mountain Battery opened on the fort on the hill at eleven and si'enced it in quarter of an hour. The Pathans then carried the villages and monastery to the left of the enemy's position, the 32nd and 23rd Pioneers carrying the right of the position,_supporting the Mounted In- fantry. The enemy held on to the villages and the guns and Maxime again opened on them continuing till 11.30 when the enemy's fire was entirely silenced. The fighting inside the fort and villages was of a sharp nature. The enemy were engaged at close quarters by the Pathana and Pioneers and severely punished. The enemy would not break, however, and it is doubtful whether all were cleared out. The column advanced to Gyantee and arrived in the evening. Our casualties were four sepoys killed, Beven wounded including Major Lye, 23rd Pioneers alight, in the hand, from a sword! cut. Quantities, of Martinis" and other rifles were captured. The troops were all in position by 3-30 in the morning, the three assaulting columns advancing to the attack. It was pitch dark when they reached the villages ut the foot of the Jong, but the moment we opened tire the onemy replied with a very hot fire from the houses, the right column being exposed at a range of about ten yards and being temporarily checked. There was not light enough for oar guns to come into action till past five, the enemy's jingale meanwhile hotly bombarding Parla Village, but doing little damage. Food will surely create Poison,
if Digestion is Faulty.
Well-digested food is the source of strength. Every act, every thought, every movement of muscle or mind uses up some of the substance of our bodies. Food repairs this loss, but only when it is digested.
Undigested food ferments in the stomach, poisons the blood, starves the body and lowers vitality.
To be strong and healthy, assist your stomach, liver and kidneys to do their work perfectly by taking Mother Seigel's Syrup, which contains food- digesting ferments and gentle tonics for the stomach, and has cured more dyspeptics than any other medicine in the world.
MOTHER
SEIGEL'S SYRUP
"For nine years I suffered from severe pains in the vicinity of the kidneys, lost my appetite completely, and could only take milk and beef ten; anything more substantial would not remain in the stomach. I became so ill A that I was forced to take to my bed. A doctor treated me for almost two months, but without success. On arriving at Cape Town at the outbreak of hostilities, a Malay friend told me of the wonderful qualities of Mother Seigel's Syrup. One bottle relieved me, and now I am never without a bottle in my house." X. Norodien, Malay Location, Johannesburg, March syth,
