clergymon have courteously mentioned ver- ses which would be likely to yield results. Some of the verses which are cited to refute the claim of the Adventists are as follow:
I was in the spirit on the Lord's Day and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.'-Revelation i., 10.

Upon these verses Christians base their observance of the first day of the week. While the Bible may contain no strict in- junction that the first day shall be our Sunday, in hallowing it we are following the precedent established by Christ was His custom to meet His disciples on the first day, and un that day the oarly Chris- tans always met and worshipped. Then, too, the Lord's Supper was always kept on thu-dient-day. A Methodist pastor notes also that, although the old Jewish Sabbath fell on the seventh day of the week, Christ rose from the dead on the first day, thus initiating the new dispensation. It is with the resurrection of Christ that the Christian religion really begins. Therefore it is urged that the first day of the week is the only day which Christians have any right to hold in particular voneration.

the seventh day. The rock on which this church is based is found in the fourth com- mandment, which states explicitly that 999⚫the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God.' Another very high authority for the Seventh Day Adventists is St. Luke. In the fourth chapter of his gospel is the account of the sermon which Christ deliver ed at Nazareth, at the close of which the congregation in the synagoue tried to cast Him from the brow of a hill. In this ser- mon occurs that famous saying, No pro- phet is accepted in his own country. The sixteenth verse of the chapter is as follows: And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up for to read." From this it scoma plain that it was Christ's habit to worship on the Sabbath day.

THE QUEEN'S PROCLAMATION. The passages in Exodus and Luke being granted as cause for the Adventists belief, it is obvious that they have personal ro ssons for the protest they are making. Their case is ably presented
ed by Rev Mr Rickard, who declares that the law com- pelling everyone to observe the first day of the week as the modern Sabbath would be în violation of the principles of religious liberty contained in a proclamation by the late Queen Victoria in 1858, which reads as follows: Firmly relying on the truth of Christianity and acknowledging with gratitude the solace of religion, we disclaim alike the right and the desire to impose
