PONIES! PONIES!! PONIES!!!

THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT.

The Present Session, (From Our Own Orrespondent.)

LONDON, January 22, The Talk Shop will re-open on Tuesday, February 2, and the rest of England will get a little peace and quietness. Gateshead has passed through the throes of a contest- ed election which made no difference in the colour of its representation but involved at least 165 fiscal speeches in a fortnight. My figures are well within the mark. It will be a relief for the public when the chatterers assemble at Westminster again to wrangle among themselves, and to reach the un- happy world only through the Prean,

The next session of Parliament has many and important subjects of discussion to occupy its attention, but it will certainly have to find room for consideration of the Alien Immigrant. No foreign nation could dump on our coasts any worthless goods so undesirable as human beinga of a low moral low funds. The typical alien works for so character, a low standard of comfort and

little that he drives British

hworkmen into the streets or into the casual wards, and he lives so sparingly that he soon saves enough to set himself up as a 'sweator' or money-lender, even if he behaves himself sufficiently well to keep out of the dook of a criminal court, The evil in not widespread, but it is acute in the districts it affects, and Mr Akers- Douglas will probably introduce legislation on the subject. It is difficult to sympathise with the outcry in those cases where cheap- ness is the only consideration, or where the foreigner wins his right to employment by superior efficiency. This frequently hap pens, and the Englishman should wake up accordingly, but it is a different affair when criminals, paupers, and verminous persons fill districts like Stepney, and afford more stench than stimulus.

THE Undersigned will hold their Annual Sale of Race Ponies by Public Roap

At a meeting of the creditors of Mesars, Willian Watson & Co. to-day the Official Receiver exid the immediate cause of the failure was the refusal of the Yokohama Specia Bank to disconnt debtors' bills. The case, he said, required most thorough investigation.

THE HEAVIEST MAN IN LANCASHIRE.

CARRYING his enormous weight with

Oase, and rather proud of his unusual proportions, Mr Samuel Brooks, 4, Punch.

stroet, Deano-rond, Bolton, England, is quite a conspicuous person in his own town. He was apprenticed, over thirty years ago, to the trade of a House-Painter, and when he had served his timo' like a good man and true, he went into his father's business. His woight is

NO LESS THAN 355 POUNDH twenty-five stone and five pounds- yet he regards it as no incumbrance, and so far from causing him discomfort it appens to be rather a source of satisfaction to him. He is a thoroughly healthy man-one more so in the County Palatine-und Dr Williams' pink pills for pale people are, he says, the 'cause of his recovery from the only illness which has soriously affected him. Of course the pills had nothing to do with his great weight. That is natural to him. Nor is it health alone that he owes to this medicine. His worldly prosperity, threatened by illness, has also been indirect ly saved by Dr Williams. It was three years ago, said ho in explanation, when

My Sommel Brooks, Weight 25 alone, "The (From a photograph,)

I had the first attack of rheumatism, Con- sidering the rough sondurons under which I had been working for so many years it is perhaps a wonder that I had not been laid up before

I remember quite well coming homs and complaining ore night about a At first I pain at the hoftem of my back,

tuok hat little notion of it, thinking it would go as it came; ut instead of that it became worse and at last I could searealy get about to give orders.

The business in consequence commenced to go go down, and finally disheartened and feeling down-right ill I had to give up. crawled round to a druggist's and he said it was rheumatism I was suffering from, at the same time making me upa prescription. I tried it and dozens of other things after- wards, including several so called sure- cures; but nothing seemed to allay the pain, which increased until I could no longer sleep at nights. The pain extended to across my shoulders until every limb and all my body seemed to be selling. My appetite went completely.

While in this low stato of health I remembered having once read of Dr Wil- liams pink pills and the cures they had offected. I sent for a bottle as a lust re- source, and thankful I am that I did, By the time I had finished the first bottle I felt a little butter. I determined to try another bottle. After that I noticed a distinct difference for the better, and at the end of the third bottle the pains were almost entirely gone and I was nicely. My appetite had returned and

DEPARTED

Por Chenan, for Manila, Mr and Mrs H. things looked hopeful once more. Instead S. King, Mrs R. Berry, Mesara W. K. of having to walk round the roon, catching Bodley, F. G. Defredes, J. S. Abraham,

at the table or chairs for support, I could. F. Wright, RH. McCrudden, C. Georg,

get about quite briskly. The fourth bottle completed the cure, and back I went to buriness, a new An and just in time to pull things together again."

Fur bottles put you right, Mr Brooks 1

Yes, quite so. I did take another balf- bottle, just to make sure of the cure, but there the other half remains. I have taken Done since, nor have any of the old symp- toms returned; and to-day, as you can see, I am as well as any man of 45 years, and a good deal better than most I have since

heard of other men, too, who have received pretty well as much benefit as I have.'

You think others ought to know of this?'

'Yes; if I did not I am just the man to tell you so,

I have no objection whatever to the interview being published,'

THIS GENIAL GIANT was quite right in wishing to let others know the secret of his recovery. But in- deed the high reputation which Dr Wil liams' pink pille enjoy in all classes of life makes those who have benefited by them in cases of anemia, biliousness, consump. tion, gout, rheumatism, sciatica, paralysis, and other disorders ready to publish their experiences. Even ladies, whose modesty would keep them si ont but for their kind anxiety to benefit their suffering sisters, do not hesitate to make known the extraordin- ary relief which the genuine pilla-Dr Williams-are capable of affording in the recurrent miseries to which -o many are subject. Dr Williams' Medicine Company, Holborn-viaduct, London, send a box for two shillings and ninepence (or six boxes for thirteen and nine) if there is any diffi culty in obtaining the genuine pills st shops. Substitutes, which do not bear Dr Williams' name are worthless. It is thanks to the genuine pills hat Mr Brooks is one of the most active and cheerful men in the County of Lancashire, as well as being the heaviest, which he owes to his splendid constitution,
