DOWIE OWES $750,000.
A great gathering of the Dowieites was held in the tabernacle at Zion City on Dec. 2. It was called by Dowie for the purpose of starting a fund of $1,000,000, with which |to pay off all the Indalitedness that hange over Zion City and himself. The outpour of his followers was not one to bring cheer to the heart of the overseer of Zion. The tabernacle seats 6,000 people, and usually all the seats are taken at the special meet- ings called by Dowie. On this occasion, however, the hall was not over half_full," and the gathering was not onthusiastic.
It is admitted by the receivers and their attorneys that claims against Dowie for merchandise alone will aggre gate $500,000, and in addition to this amount, that there are mortgages on his -property at Zion City amounting to 8128,000, which are due the first of next year. He owes $100,000 to his brother in law, Stoven- son, making a total of 8725,000.
Behind closed doors in Dowie's private office Dowio and his attorney met Custodian Redieski and attorneys representing the creditors, The principal object was to ar- range plans for the continuation of the various industrien. The necrot conference is said to have been atorny at times, when Dowie became angored at what he called 'presumption' on the part of his op- ponents,
The secrets of Dowie's bank have been so closely guarded that not even the State Auditor has been able to secure a statement of the institution. The Legislature sought to probe into the methods of the bank three years ago, but was forced to acknowledge defeat.
Receivers Blount and Currier however, will go to the bottom of the banking in- stitution, and scrutinize its methods of doing business, as well as its financial con- dition.

A BIG FIRE IN DES VŒUX ROAD.
Extensive Damage. Following close upon the fire reported yesterday another outbreak occurred about two o'clock this morning, this time on the lower level, where the supply of water was plentiful.
The fire was first reported as being in the rear of No. 314 Des Voeux Road, which abuts on No. 106 Wing Lok Street. The fire was located in a kitchen at the back of No. 314, but it was hard to reach
with the hoses. The roof of the kitchen was of tiles, which kept the water from going in. From the kitchen the top floor of No. 314 caught alight, and from there it spread to No. 312, and through the back to 100 Wing Lok Street. All the available fire-fighting appliances were turned out to combat the fire. The fire font supplied the hoses with plenty of water, and it was soon only a matter of time for the fire to be conquered. A great difficulty to fight against was the dense masses of smoke, which drove the firemen back time after time. Most of the goods stored in the houses were of general merchandise, and the volumes of smoke that rolled upwards hid the burning buildings from view.

The Ocean forwards started the game, but the ball was returned to hall-way. where a scrumimage took place. From the ruck Cameron picked up and passed to Crozier, who knocked on. Then Pearce secured and dashed through the Ocean forwards, being, however, brought down near the twenty-five. He delayed passing until too late, and the Ocean's forwards; Gordon and Littledale in the van, carried the ball back to halfway, where Macdonald smothered it. Poarce kicked up field, and landed the ball in touch within fifteen yards of the Ocean's goal. A pass from Pearce to Cameron was banded on to Crozier, who was forced into touch near the Ocean's twenty-five. From the scrum J. P. Jordan got the Ball, and rap round, making a good opening. He held the ball as though he intended to essay a drop kick at goal, being immediately, in front, then evidently changed his mind, and passed forward to Pearce, spoiling a fine oppor tunity.
