The Bishoprice of Manchester Octolar 8.-The Right Rev. Edmund Arbuthnott Hoax, D.D., Bishop Buffragan of Coventry, has been appointed Bishop of Manchester, in succussion to the Right itev. Dr. Moorhouse, who his retired on nenun of advanced age. Dr Knox lus been Bishop of Coventry, Buffragan, to the Bishop of Worcester since 1804. He was born in India, and in 5 years of age. Dr Knox has educated at been twice married. He St. Paul's School, and at Corpus Christ College, Oxford, wore he had a distinguish-1814 ed career. He became Fellow, tutor, and Dean of Morion College, Oxford, subse- quently being appointed to the reatorship of Kibworth Reauchamp, and from there was transferred to a charge in Birmingham. 1894 Dr Knox was appointed Archdeacon of Birminghaus.]

Allahabad, October 17.The Captain commanding the first ekka train for Somali- land has recommended that in order to re- place ekkas which may become unservice- able, a suitablo rasarye ehould be selected and a registered reserve of harness kapt ready. Before adopting this recommend ation, however, Governinont have asked to be informat as early as possible whether i the ekkan already despatched prove so use- ful as to render their replacement desirable.
Coal in Tonkin.
In a report on affairs in Indo-China, the British Consulat Pakhui remarks that the output of the Hungay mines in 1002 was 300,000 tons, and of the Nougsou rainer (near Tourane) 25,000 tons. The Hongay coal when mixed with about 20 per cent. of Japanese is reported on very favourably by
