WILD WITH ECZEMA
And Other Itching, Burning, Scaly Eruptions with Loss of Hair.
Speedy Cure Treatment,
Bathe the affected parts with Hot Water and Cutlcurs Soap, to cleanse the surface of crusts and scales, and soften the thickened cuticle. Dry, without hard rubbing, and apply Cuticura Ointment freely, to allay Itching, irritation, and inflammation, and soothe and heal, and lastly tâke Cuticura Resolvent Pills, to cool and cleanse the blood. A single set is often sufficient to cure the most torturing, dis- figuring, itching, burning, scaly, pimply humours, eczemas, rashes, Irritations, and chafings, with loss of hair, when all else fails.
The agonizing Itching and burning of the skin, as in eczera; the fright- ful scaling, as in psoriasis; the loss of hair and crusting of the scalp, as in scalled head; the facial disfigurement, as in pimples and ringworm; the awful suffering of infants and the anxiety of worn-out parent, as in milk crust, tetter, and salt rheum, all demand a remedy of almost superhuman virtues to successfully cope with them. Such are the CrTICURA remedies; the purest, sweetest, most speedy and economical curatives for the skin, scalp, and blood ever compounded. Mothers are their warmest friends.
Millions of Women Use Cuticura Soap
Assisted by CUTICURA OINTMENT for preserving, purifying, and beautify- ing the skin, for cleansing the scalp of crusts, seales, and dandruff, and the stopping of falling hair, for softening, whitening, and soothing red, rough, and sore hands, for baby rashes and chafings, in the form of baths for annoying irritations and inflammations of women, or too free or offensive perspiration, in the form of washes for ulcerative weaknesses, and many, sunativo, antiseptle purposes which readily suggest themselves, as well as for all the purposes of the toilet, bath, and nursery.
CUTICURA RESOLVENT PILLS (Chocolate Coated) are a new, tasteless,
odourless, economical substitute for the rele brated liquid CUTICURA RESOLVENT, as well as for all other bigod puritlers and humour cures. Put up in screw.rap pocket vinis, containing de doses.

Throughout Europe there roams a class of men who earn a living in the capacity of secret agents. Every nation has its little band of spies whose duty it is to keep their respective Government aware of what other nations are doing. Every new dorico in modern warfare is watched, and the most cunning means to guard the secret of a new gun or submarine boat circumvented by these important detectives of the Powers. Their succoss, however, largely depends on the weakness and sordidness of humanity Money is at their command, and with it they frequently purchase traitors.
It is obvious that those agents should be linguists of the first order. Not. so inuch that they may be able to converse in the various languages as to enable them to understand all conversation they way over- hear. As a matter of fact, a foreign spy often disarma suspicion by exhibiting au utter ignorance of the language of the particular country le may be visiting.
The dangerous life of a spy calls for an adequate payment, and as a rule these gentry are well supplied with cash. They are masters of the art of disguise..
Some years ago the British Government desired some information about a new war- ballon that was being tried by the German

work travelled as an English tourist. Ho reached the neighborhood where the ex- periments were being carried out, but was. not allowed to make a close inspection of the ballon.
After the experiments had been made ko followed the inventor and some military friends to a tavern close by, and sat him. solf at a table in their vicinity. In the most, execrable German he called for a glass of beer. The military gentlemen seemed suspicious of their neighbor, and in their own language began talking about the English dog, and uttered many abusive terms in his hearing. The agent sat through it all with a sublimely ignorant -cast of countenance, till the inventor and his companions were satisfied that his knowledge of the language was of the tourist brand. Thus lulled into security, they began to discuss the experiments, and in half an hour the spy had learned sufficient to send a good report to London.
General Marbon, of the French, in his memoirs, recounts how Napoleon employed como traitors whose identity was never re- realed to obtain for him the great military map of Russia. Not only did they do so, but they also eccured and sent to Franco the copper plate's from which the imprese sions were taken..
Marbon also relates how Czar Alexander I. sent Colonel Czernicheff on an honorable mission to the Court of France. Czerni- cheff made use of his opportunities to bribe two poor clerks in the War Office to divulgo State secrets. Suspicion was aroused by such a distinguished personage as Czerni cheff being seen in the company of one of the clerks late at night in the Champs Ely see. Napoleon, indignant at the Russian'e abuse of his position, ordered his arrest. Czernicheff, however, received timely warn- ing, and made his escape., Ono of the clerks was arrested while in the act of counting his ill-gotten gains, amounting to 300,010- francs, and with his fellow-clerk was tried and subsequently shot.
Despito Napoleon's indignation at such a thing, he was not above making use of similar means to suit his own purposes. When war - seemed imminent in 1809 between France and Austria the Archduke Charles received warning that a high officer in his army had Bold himself to General Andreossi, the This is an opportunity which very seldom French Ambassador. Down upon the worthy Mr Ancient's venerable head descendeda verit able avalanche of abuse. From right and left he was pounded with correspondenco belching forth denunciation of a typo scarcely conceivable, and it is stated that he is now absolutely and irrevocably un- done. Certain it is that Mr Ancient never played golf with the ladies or he would have known that the only words they uso, though they might give utterance to them with more force than politeness, are 'dear me,' and well, I never. At least nothing more severe than those expressions ever escape the lips of Hongkong lady golfers.

I gave you my opinion as to the causes of this miserable state of affairs, and I can only repeat them. The large amount of money flowing out of the country to pay for the enormous Rice imports from Saigon and Rangoon, no conesponding increase of exparts. The fact that this country, the richest country in the
sumed shows most anomalous state East, las to import all the Rice con-
of affairs, and is explained by the fact that the natives will not work and the Government will not allow foreign labour to be imported. Immense tracts of country which previously yielded large crops Paddy and Sugar are now quite un- cultivated. The native can earn sufficient in two days doing Government work to keep him in comfort for the rest of the week. Formerly, he got twenty conts a day at field work; now, in almost any Province, he can get one dollar per day
